Dr John Dowsett

Dr John Dowsett is a highly qualified Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing a wide range of digestive and liver disorders. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, he focuses on delivering thorough and reliable clinical assessments. His clinical practice encompasses general gastroenterology, with a particular focus on the investigation and management of complex gastrointestinal conditions.

Dr Dowsett completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney, graduating with first-class honours. He then undertook his Specialist Physician and Advanced Gastroenterology training at a major teaching hospital in Sydney. To further refine his expertise, he completed advanced training in interventional endoscopy, specifically focusing on endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), as a Research Fellow at University College London. Dr Dowsett is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Throughout his career, Dr Dowsett has maintained a strong commitment to clinical research and medical education, having contributed to more than 80 publications in prestigious international medical journals. His areas of clinical interest include inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease, as well as coeliac disease, liver disease, and therapeutic endoscopy. He is highly skilled in performing essential diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, oesophageal dilatation, and small bowel investigations, ensuring his patients receive the highest standard of care.
