Dr Joel King

Dr Joel King is a highly regarded Consultant Psychiatrist who provides comprehensive mental health care for both inpatient and outpatient populations. With a clinical focus that spans across child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry, Dr King is dedicated to delivering evidence-based, compassionate care. He specialises in diagnosing and managing a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar disorder, depression, and schizophrenia. His clinical approach is deeply patient-centred, ensuring that individuals and their families receive tailored support to navigate complex mental health challenges.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr King is heavily involved in psychiatric education, research, and professional leadership. He serves as a Senior Lecturer and is a member of the Education Committee of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne. Furthermore, he is a founding member of the Academy of Clinical Teachers at the Melbourne Medical School. As a Psychiatry Training Coordinator, he plays a pivotal role in supervising and teaching medical students and psychiatry trainees. Dr King has also contributed to the broader psychiatric community through leadership roles, including serving as the former Chair of the Section of Private Practice Psychiatry of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).

Dr King completed his medical training with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and went on to obtain a Master of Psychological Medicine (M.Psy). He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and holds a Certificate of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Demonstrating his commitment to medical administration and education, he is also recognised as an Associate Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (AFRACMA) and an Associate Fellow of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AFAMEE).
