Dr Harry McConnell

Professor Harry McConnell is a senior Consultant Neuropsychiatrist with extensive experience in the assessment and management of post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, complex trauma, neurological disability and psychiatric conditions associated with military service. His career has spanned clinical practice, rehabilitation, neuroscience leadership, disability medicine and medico-legal assessment across Australia and internationally.

He is the founder of the Australian Centre for Trauma in Veterans (ACTIV) and also leads All Abilities Health, where he provides specialist neuropsychiatric, capacity and independent medical assessments. Earlier in his career, he served as Director of Neurosciences at St Vincent’s Hospital Brisbane, where he contributed to the development of specialist neuroscience assessment and rehabilitation services.

His areas of expertise include PTSD, traumatic brain injury, neuropsychiatric assessment, complex trauma, moral injury, depression, cognitive impairment, neurological disability, decision-making capacity, rehabilitation planning and medico-legal evaluation. Professor McConnell has substantial experience in independent medical assessment, disability evaluation and expert reporting, particularly in cases involving traumatic brain injury, psychiatric illness, neurological impairment and complex functional disability.

His MCIME qualification reflects advanced expertise in structured medico-legal assessment and independent clinical opinion.

Professor McConnell follows a multidisciplinary, trauma-informed and function-focused approach. He considers the interaction between neurological, psychiatric, cognitive, physical and social factors when assessing complex conditions, with the aim of providing clear diagnosis, practical treatment recommendations and coordinated rehabilitation planning.
