Dr Joanna Black

Dr Joanna Black is a highly accomplished and reassuring Consultant Ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive eye care for both paediatric and adult patients. With a patient-centred approach, she specialises in diagnosing and managing a wide range of complex visual conditions. Her clinical focus spans paediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, and strabismus, ensuring that patients of all ages receive tailored, expert care to protect and improve their vision.

Dr Black completed her undergraduate medical degree at the University of Adelaide before undertaking her specialist training in Ophthalmology. To further refine her expertise, she travelled to the United Kingdom to complete prestigious sub-specialist fellowships. This included intensive training in neuro-ophthalmology and ocular motility at a renowned hospital in Oxford, followed by a formal fellowship in paediatric ophthalmology at a world-leading children's hospital in London. These international experiences have equipped her with advanced skills in managing intricate eye movement disorders and childhood vision conditions.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Black is deeply committed to advancing the field of eye health through leadership and education. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and actively contributes to the profession as a member of the RANZCO Council and as an Examiner. She also dedicates her time to supervising specialist trainees and volunteering for international non-profit organisations dedicated to combating avoidable blindness.
