Dr Janet Towns

Dr Janet Towns is a highly accomplished Sexual Health Physician and General Practitioner who is dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate, and non-judgemental care to her patients. Dr Towns has a particular clinical interest in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of sexually transmissible infections (STIs), with a strong focus on syphilis and Mpox. Her expertise spans a wide range of sexual health services, including contraceptive advice, reproductive healthcare, and the management of complex sexual health conditions. Dr Towns completed her Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Newcastle in 2001. Committed to continuous learning, she went on to obtain a Master of Forensic Medicine in 2011, a Master of Public Health in 2012, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Monash University in 2020, focusing her doctoral research on syphilis transmission and early detection strategies. She holds several prestigious professional memberships, including being a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, a Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine, and a Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
