Dr James Otton

Dr James Otton is a highly accomplished Consultant Cardiologist who specialises in advanced cardiac imaging and the management of complex cardiovascular conditions. With a clinical focus that spans preventative cardiology, valvular heart disease, and cardio-oncology, he is dedicated to providing comprehensive and reassuring care to his patients. Dr Otton has extensive expertise in advanced heart failure management and cardiac transplantation, utilising state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques to ensure early detection and optimal treatment pathways.

Dr Otton completed his medical training with Honours at the University of New South Wales, where he was also awarded the prestigious Foundation Year Graduates' Medal. His academic pursuits are exceptionally diverse, holding a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, a Master of Biomedical Engineering, and a PhD focused on the early detection of cardiovascular disease. He completed advanced fellowships in cardiac imaging both in Australia and the United Kingdom, obtaining the highest international Level 3 certification in Cardiac MRI diagnostics and the premier qualification in cardiovascular CT. Dr Otton is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Otton is actively involved in medical education and research, serving as a conjoint Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer. He has received numerous accolades for his research contributions, including a Young Investigator Award from the International Society of Cardiovascular CT. Committed to improving healthcare access, he also dedicates his time to running outreach clinics and supporting cardiac health initiatives for vulnerable communities.
