Dr Dhara Perera

Dr Dhara Perera is a highly dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist who is committed to providing compassionate, holistic, and patient-centred care. She believes in exploring and understanding each patient's unique challenges to support them on their individual journey to recovery. With a reassuring and professional approach, Dr Perera works collaboratively with her patients to develop tailored treatment plans that address both their immediate mental health needs and long-term well-being.

Throughout her career, Dr Perera has developed a broad range of clinical interests within adult and youth psychiatry. She specialises in the assessment and management of complex mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders. Her expertise also extends to supporting individuals experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma, as well as managing neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Additionally, she provides supportive psychotherapy and addresses the psychiatric aspects of chronic pain syndrome.

Dr Perera completed her undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, followed by her medical training, earning a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from James Cook University. Committed to advancing her psychiatric expertise, she also obtained a Master of Psychological Medicine. Dr Perera is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), reflecting her adherence to the highest standards of psychiatric practice. She is also an active contributor to the medical community, having published research in peer-reviewed psychiatric journals and served as an Editor and Academic Lead for mental health education platforms.
