Dr Darren Paterson

Dr Darren Paterson is a Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 15 years of surgical experience, specialising in hip and knee arthroplasty. He holds appointments as a Visiting Medical Officer with the Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Service at Gosford and Wyong Hospitals and also operates at Armidale Private Hospital. His practice extends across Sydney, the Northern Beaches, Central Coast, and South Coast regions.

Dr Paterson completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney before undertaking Orthopaedic Surgery training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association Northside Program. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2005.

Following his specialist training, Dr Paterson pursued advanced international fellowships. He gained expertise in primary and revision hip arthroplasty at the world-renowned Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter, UK, the home of the Exeter Hip Replacement – the most widely used hip replacement in Australia. He then completed a Harvard Fellowship in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty at Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA, and a Paediatric Orthopaedic Hip Fellowship at Shriners Hospital in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Dr Paterson has performed over 3,500 hip and knee replacements and is recognised for his commitment to evidence-based surgery, combined with a patient-focused approach that ensures care is tailored to individual needs. In addition to his civilian practice, he serves as an Orthopaedic Surgeon with the Australian Army Reserve, holding the rank of Major.
