Dr Claire Wise

Dr Claire Wise is a highly dedicated Psychiatrist based in Melbourne, Victoria, who specialises in the mental health care of older patients. With a compassionate and reassuring approach, she works collaboratively with patients and their families to deliver evidence-based care that supports optimal mental health and well-being. Dr Wise has a particular clinical focus on aged psychiatry, including the assessment, diagnosis, and management of cognitive disorders, as well as mood, anxiety, and psychotic disorders in individuals aged over 65.

Dr Wise completed her medical degree with honours at Monash University, where she also earned a Bachelor of Medical Science with honours in the field of psycho-oncology. Her early research led to a prestigious placement with a consultation-liaison psychiatry team at a world-renowned cancer centre in New York City. She went on to obtain a Master of Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne and completed her specialist College Fellowship training across major metropolitan health services. Demonstrating clinical excellence, she was awarded the prestigious Maddison Medallion by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2019, recognising her outstanding performance in her fellowship examinations and training. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and is completing an advanced certificate in Old Age Psychiatry.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Wise is actively involved in psychiatric research and medical education. She serves as an Associate Lecturer, enjoying the opportunity to teach and mentor Medical Students and Junior Doctors. As a Principal Investigator, she contributes to clinical trials focused on mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease, helping to advance the understanding and treatment of neurodegenerative conditions. Her diverse experience also includes working within public aged and liaison psychiatry services and specialised cognitive dementia assessment clinics, ensuring her patients benefit from the latest advancements in psychiatric care.
