Dr Chantal Esnault

Dr Chantal Esnault is an experienced and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in perinatal and reproductive psychiatry. She is dedicated to supporting individuals and families navigating the complex emotional and mental health transitions associated with fertility, pregnancy, the postpartum period, parenting, and perimenopause. Dr Esnault is highly regarded for her collaborative, empathetic, and inclusive approach, ensuring that her patients feel safe, empowered, and supported throughout their therapeutic journey.

Her clinical practice focuses on a wide range of emotional and mental health difficulties. Dr Esnault has a particular interest in managing depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders during pregnancy and the postnatal period, as well as addressing parent-infant attachment and bonding issues. She provides expert guidance on the safe use of psychotropic medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Additionally, she offers compassionate support for grief and emotional challenges related to infertility, assisted reproduction, perinatal loss, and complex pregnancies. Her expertise also extends to consultation-liaison psychiatry, with a specific focus on the intersection of physical and psychological health, particularly for individuals managing Type 1 or gestational diabetes.

Dr Esnault completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with first-class honours at Monash University in 2003. She went on to obtain a Master of Psychological Medicine from the same institution. She completed her specialist training in general psychiatry at a major metropolitan health service, followed by a specialised fellowship in psychiatry at a leading women's hospital to focus on women's and perinatal mental health. Dr Esnault is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, having qualified in 2011, and holds an Advanced Training Certificate in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. She is also an accredited member of the Faculty of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
