Dr Amanda Gilligan is an experienced neurologist at Neurology Network Melbourne who specialises in general neurology, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and stroke. She is dedicated to the improvement of stroke medicine and is the current director of the neuroscience unit at Epworth Eastern Hospital where she helped implement the new Rapid Access inpatient TIA service.
Dr Gilligan first graduated with her medical degree from Monash University in 1989. She went on to undertake higher training in neurology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Austin before becoming a registered specialist in 1998. Following this, she achieved a post-graduate scholarship which enabled her to undertake a PhD at the National Stroke Research Institute. Dr Gilligan has also spent time training in acute stroke medicine and stroke telemedicine in France in collaboration with Professor Pierre Amarenco. She is actively involved in stroke research such as the Victorian Stroke Telemedicine project and has presented her research at conferences both nationally and internationally.
Dr Gilligan is a member of a number of organisations including the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists, the Stroke Society of Australia and New Zealand, and the Victoria Brain Foundation of which she is also the chairperson.
