Dr Alexander Hunyor

Dr Alexander Hunyor is a highly regarded Ophthalmologist and Retinal Specialist who specialises in the medical and surgical management of vitreoretinal and macular diseases. Based in Chatswood, he provides comprehensive, patient-focused care for individuals experiencing complex eye conditions. Dr Hunyor is dedicated to delivering the highest standard of clinical excellence, combining advanced surgical techniques with a compassionate approach to help patients preserve and restore their vision.

With a primary clinical focus on vitreoretinal surgery and macular disorders, Dr Hunyor is actively involved in advancing the field of ophthalmology through clinical research and education. He serves as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and is a key member of a prominent macular research group, contributing to numerous clinical trials aimed at developing innovative treatments for retinal diseases. Dr Hunyor graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney Medical School in 1990. He completed his specialist training in ophthalmology at a major eye and ear hospital in Melbourne, where he was awarded multiple prestigious medals and scholarships for academic and clinical excellence. He then undertook extensive subspecialty fellowship training in medical and surgical retina at leading institutions in Australia and the United States. Dr Hunyor is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). His professional memberships include the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists, the Oceania Retina Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists, where he serves as the Australian International Delegate.
