Mr Thomas Jenyon is a consultant ophthalmologist and corneal surgeon in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, specialising in cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange to help patients achieve freedom from glasses. He also treats corneal disease, dry eye and pterygium, and performs corneal transplantation.
Mr Jenyon offers the full range of modern vision correction, including multifocal, toric (astigmatism-correcting), piggyback and secondary lens implants and laser treatment. He runs his own dedicated refractive clinic at the Paragon Clinic, giving him extensive experience in lens selection and in managing patients through every stage of their journey to spectacle independence. He has particular expertise in complex cataract surgery, patients who have previously had laser eye surgery, and the correction of astigmatism and higher-order aberrations — the factors that determine the quality of vision a premium lens can achieve.
Mr Jenyon believes there is no single "best" lens — only the right lens for the right patient. He takes time to understand each patient's eyes, lifestyle and priorities before recommending cataract, lens or laser surgery, and will advise against a premium lens, or against surgery altogether, where it is not in a patient's interest.
He welcomes patients seeking a second opinion, including those unhappy after previous lens surgery. He is the only surgeon in the region offering the complete range of corrective options for unsatisfactory outcomes — including piggyback lens implants, lens exchange and top-up laser refinement — and receives referrals from optometrists and consultant colleagues for toric lens surgery and complex lens-choice decisions.
All private surgery is performed personally by Mr Jenyon, with no trainees involved. He meets every patient before and after surgery, offers very prompt surgical dates, and follows each patient through to a result they are happy with.
Mr Jenyon studied at University College London, earning a first-class grounding in Neuroscience before qualifying in medicine with distinction. Unusually for an ophthalmologist, he trained in general medicine and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians — a breadth that underpins his holistic approach to eye health. He completed specialist ophthalmology training in the West Midlands. His research into refractive outcomes has won national and international prizes and been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he continuously audits his surgical outcomes.
At the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital he is Lead for the Urgent Eye Clinic and College Tutor for ophthalmology, training the next generation of cataract and corneal surgeons. He has twice won the Recognising Excellence in Medical Education award and has been both winner and runner-up of West Midlands Trainer of the Year.
He sees private patients at the Paragon Clinic and Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, and a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

The surgery was quick, painless, thoroughly explained and with much better result than expected with dual cataracts - almost perfect vision now.

Everything was good. I was nervous about the cataract operation but as it all went exactly to plan I needn’t have been. Explanations were clear and all my questions were answered. The operations were successful and I now have better vision without glasses or lenses. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Jenyon.
