Mr Karamanakos is a General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at the Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital. Mr Karamanakos earned his medical degree from Semmelweis University of Medicine, Budapest. He then spent time in the United Kingdom and Greece where he completed his surgical training before completing his CCT in General Surgery from the University Hospital of Patras in Greece in 2009. Following that, he became a consultant surgeon in the University Hospital of Patras, where he focused predominantly on the management of morbidly obese patients with bariatric surgery. He achieved a PhD for his work in bariatric surgery and gastrointestinal hormones, and he has been widely published in prestigious medical journals including 'The Annals of Surgery.'
Mr Karamanakos later undertook advanced laparoscopic surgical training at the world-renowned IRCAD/EITS center in Strasbourg, France and has also completed fellowships in gastrointestinal surgery at London's Whipps Cross Hospital and Kings College Hospital.

Mr Karamankos instantly made me feel comfortable from my first consultation. He explained the procedure so thoroughly, I did not have to ask one question as they were already answered. On the day of my surgery Mr Karamanakos continued to make me feel relaxed and safe. As someone who has many surgeries I have never had such a posivitive experience as I had with him. He really went over and beyond for me. His skills have left me with minimal scarring and recovered so well. His kind and personable manner really makes a difference.
