About Dr Shiva Mongolu
Dr Shiva Mongolu is a Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Hull University Hospitals NHS Trust, with extensive experience in managing complex endocrine conditions. He graduated in medicine from the University of Health Sciences Andhra Pradesh in 2002 and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2006. He later completed higher specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in the Wessex region, finishing in 2014.
After his specialist training, Dr Mongolu was appointed Locum Consultant Endocrinologist in Southampton before joining Hull University Hospitals in January 2015. His specialist interests include pituitary and adrenal disease, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome, gynaecological endocrinology, obesity, and diabetes. He treats a wide range of endocrine conditions, including thyrotoxicosis, hypothyroidism, hyperparathyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, and pituitary disorders.
Dr Mongolu established and chairs the regional adrenal multidisciplinary team and contributes to regional pituitary and thyroid MDTs, supporting complex case management. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School and has held senior educational roles, including Training Programme Director for foundation and internal medicine trainees. He also serves as Clinical Governance and Education Lead for his department, reflecting his commitment to high-quality patient care, education, and innovation.

I came for a consultation with Dr Mongulo because recent blood tests showed a higher calcium level in my blood than normal. My GP referred me to a local NHS Endocrinologist. Local waiting times for the first consultation were between 35 and 42 weeks. This caused real anxiety for me because it came out of the blue and I needed to know how serious this condition is and what could be done about it. Dr Mongolu proved very informative and thorough in his reading of my blood test results and the symtoms I am displaying. He outlined the next steps and tests that I need to take in the near future and the possibility of a parathyroid operation to eleviate my condition totally after those further tests give their results. His consultation put me more at ease with the medical condition I have and I went away with a very much improved knowledge about that condition. This consultation was very beneficial for myself.
