About Mr Shanka Benaragama

Mr. Shanka Benaragama is a highly skilled Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon. Currently, he holds an honorary clinical lecturer position at University College London (UCL) medical school.

Mr. Benaragama completed his higher General and Vascular surgical training in renowned institutions such as Oxford, London, and Cambridge. During his training, he gained valuable experience at hospitals including the Royal Free, UCLH, Wexham Park Hospital, and Addenbrookes Hospital. He has also completed the National lower limb salvage fellowship (VaLSA), a prestigious program in the UK. Furthermore, Mr. Benaragama has successfully completed the Management and Leadership Resident program at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, which is equivalent to an MBA.

As a consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon, Mr. Benaragama specialises in both open and endovascular interventions in arteries and veins. He has a subspecialty interest in managing complex wounds caused by diabetic foot disease and venous diseases, ranging from varicose veins to deep venous diseases. He is also highly skilled in the management of peripheral arterial disease, carotid stenosis, aortic aneurysms, lymphoedema, and thoracic outlet syndrome. Notably, he is one of the few vascular surgeons in the country with a special interest in complex hyperhidrosis management and leads the largest hyperhidrosis service in North London.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Benaragama is actively involved in teaching and mentoring. He is a fully Accredited GMC Clinical and Educational Supervisor and a Course Instructor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is also a faculty member for national vascular trainee teaching programs conducted by the Joint Committee of Higher Surgical Trainees (JCST). In addition, he has contributed significantly to the medical community as a founder and Director of various international and national teaching conferences. He has presented and written over 50 academic papers, both nationally and internationally. He is a member of prestigious organisations such as the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG).
