About Dr Richard Needham
Dr Richard Needham is a Consultant Orthodontist and GDC-registered Orthodontic Specialist (GDC Reference: 113590) with expertise in complex multidisciplinary orthodontics, orthognathic surgery, hypodontia management, and temporary anchorage devices (TADs).
He qualified as a dentist with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Manchester in 2007. He subsequently earned Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MFDS RCS Ed) and Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MJDF RCS Eng) in 2009. He completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics before undertaking a three-year specialist training programme in Orthodontics, earning an MSc in Orthodontics and Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth RCS Eng) in 2013 to achieve specialist registration with the General Dental Council. Following two additional years of senior registrar training, he achieved Fellowship in Orthodontics (FDS Orth RCS Eng) to gain Consultant status.
Dr Needham serves as a Consultant Orthodontist at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester (Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust) and holds an appointment as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester. He is Co-Director of the Manchester Orthodontic Therapy Programme and actively teaches and supervises postgraduate orthodontic trainees, undergraduate dental students, and orthodontic therapy students, while contributing to peer-reviewed research on orthodontic retention, clear aligners, and light-curing technologies.
