Dr Rasheed Zakaria

Dr Rasheed Zakaria is a highly accomplished Consultant Neurosurgeon specialising in cranial and spinal neurosurgery, with subspecialist expertise in neuro-oncology. Providing comprehensive care for patients facing complex neurological conditions, he combines advanced surgical techniques with an empathetic, patient-centred approach. His clinical practice encompasses both emergency neurosurgery and elective procedures, addressing complex disorders of the brain and spine to restore function and improve patient outcomes.

Dr Zakaria completed his initial degree in medical sciences and neuroscience at Cambridge University before earning his medical degree (BMBCh) at the University of Oxford. He subsequently completed specialist postgraduate training in neurosurgery, alongside a full-time PhD funded by the Medical Research Council focusing on brain tumour invasion. To further refine his surgical skills, he undertook an international fellowship in surgical neuro-oncology in the United States. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and maintains active memberships with several professional bodies, including the Society of British Neurosurgeons, the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Society for Neuro-Oncology, and the British Neuro-Oncology Society.

In his daily practice, Dr Zakaria treats a broad array of conditions, including primary brain tumours, brain metastases, spinal neoplasms, degenerative cervical and lumbar spine disease, hydrocephalus, and neurotrauma. He possesses expertise in advanced intraoperative technologies designed to maximise surgical precision while preserving neurological function. These techniques include awake craniotomy, brain motor mapping, 5-ALA fluorescence-guided resection, intraoperative MRI, and intraoperative ultrasound. Alongside his clinical duties, Dr Zakaria leads translational research into immunotherapy and novel imaging methods for brain tumours, actively contributing to advancements in neurosurgical oncology.
