About Professor Sanjiv Jari

Professor Sanjiv Jari is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Sports
Medicine Surgeon with a strong commitment to combining clinical excellence,
innovation, and education. He is regularly invited to speak nationally and
internationally on knee surgery and sports injuries.

What distinguishes his practice is a dual focus on treating
all patients from elite athletes to patients with degenerative joint
conditions, using the same advanced, evidence-based techniques. His aim is to
preserve the natural joint wherever possible, restore function efficiently, and
tailor every treatment plan to the individual’s lifestyle and goals.

Treatments Tailored to Your Knee:

Whether you are struggling with knee pain, an injury, or
have been told you need surgery, Professor Jari offers a comprehensive range of
the most advanced treatments available — chosen specifically to give you the
best possible outcome and get you back to doing what matters most.

  • Treating Arthritis
Without Surgery — For patients with arthritic or degenerative knee
pain, n-STRIDE injections are an advanced regenerative therapy that uses
your body's own natural healing proteins to reduce pain, support joint
health and return to your activities — a modern alternative to simply
        managing your pain.
  • The Most Advanced Knee
Replacement Technique Available — MAKO Robotic Surgery — Your knee
replacement will be undertaken using the MAKO robotic-assisted system, the
most precise technology currently available. As the first surgeon to
perform this procedure in the North-West, Professor Jari uses this
innovation to potentially deliver less invasive surgery, less scarring,
faster recovery, and a knee replacement that should last you longer.
  • Keyhole Surgery for
Cartilage Problems — For conditions such as meniscal (cartilage)
tears, Professor Jari performs minimally invasive keyhole (arthroscopic)
surgery using small incisions and a tiny camera, minimising tissue
disruption and supporting a faster, smoother recovery.
  • Complex Knee Ligament
Reconstruction — Including ACL reconstruction, restoring stability and
protecting your long-term joint health. Professor Jari uses the
Bone-Patellar Tendon-Bone (BPTB) graft — widely regarded as the gold
        standard, including for elite athletes.
  • Rehabilitation:
The Essential Part of Your Recovery — Rehabilitation following any
treatments are an important part of your recovery. With specified and
enhanced rehab techniques together with liaising with your
physiotherapists, will aid your return to function.

This range of options allows Professor Jari to provide truly
personalised arthritis care, from early-stage management through to joint
replacement where necessary.

Professor Jari holds academic roles as an Honorary Senior
Lecturer in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at the University of Manchester and
Honorary Clinical Professor at the University of Central Lancashire. His
academic background also includes a previous professorial appointment within
the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bolton, reflecting his
particular interest in biomechanics and its application to improving surgical
outcomes. In his NHS practice at Salford Royal Hospital, he specialises in lower
limb and trauma surgery.

Professor Jari has worked with athletes competing at the
highest levels, including roles with the Commonwealth Games (Manchester 2002),
the World Police and Fire Games (Indianapolis 2001), and the USA Amateur Boxing
Association. He has also served as Orthopaedic Surgeon to the Great British
Olympic Wrestling squad and continues to support professional and international
athletes across sports such as rugby, football, netball, MMA and basketball.
Professor Jari’s experience in elite sport has shaped his approach to patient
care at every level. He trained in London and Manchester before undertaking a
further specialist Sports Medicine and Knee Fellowship in the United States at
a leading sports medicine clinic in Indianapolis.

Professor Jari is a member of the British Orthopaedic Sports
Trauma Association and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Professor Jari remains actively involved in research,
leading and contributing to studies in lower limb surgery, and he is committed
to education through supervising postgraduate doctors, as well as mentoring
medical students, rehabilitation students, and international fellows

Professor Jari’s experience gives him a detailed understanding of performance, rehabilitation, and safe return to activity, which he applies to all patients, not only elite athletes.

I attended for a follow up appointment following surgery. I have had a very good outcome due to the skill of Prof Jari during surgery and his very clear instructions on my rehabilitation.

I have recently gone through ACL reconstruction surgery with Prof Jari at The Alexandra Hospital. The entire process from my first consultation to being signed off has been amazing. Prof Jari has been incredibly clear and supporting throughout the entire process. We discussed all available options, treatment routes, and graft options and he allowed me to understand each route and helped me make my decision. The treatment I received at the Alexandra Hospital was brilliant. The staff were lovely and really helped me feel comfortable before and after my surgery. Post surgery I have been seeing Prof Jari regularly to check my progress and following his advice and guidance I have recovered well. Each milestone for recovery we have met on time or sooner than expected. The wider team that work with Prof Jari to organise consultations and share information have also been great. Whenever I needed to reorganise anything, they were very accommodating and always happy to help. I would absolutely recommend Prof Jari to anyone who has suffered an ACL injury. He and the team have helped make a positive outcome from my injury.

Re-knee Arthroscopy Nov 2025 at Spire Manchester I had a left knee meniscus tear, I went to see Professor Jari for an initial consultation at the end of October where everything was explained, I had the surgery at the end of November, everything went really smoothly from admission to discharge. I would highly recommend Professor Jari if you need knee surgery he was easy to talk to and explains everything to put your mind at ease.

I had a total knee replacement by Professor Jari at the Alexandra Hospital in July. I was treated with kindness and compassion throughout and I am delighted with the results. Six months later and my knee is pain free and has healed beautifully. I would have no hesitation in recommending Professor Jari and his team, they have been exceptional.

This is my second knee replacement under Professor Jari at Spire Hospital and I am highly delighted with the result. I had my left knee replaced in 2021 and my right knee replaced in November 2025, both under Professor Jari using the Maco Robotic Surgery technique. I understand Professor Jari has performed many knee replacements using this Maco Robotic Surgery. I have had no issues with healing or infections following my surgery and the recovery is going very well. After just three weeks in recovery I am no longer using crutches for support and my Physio Therapist has signed me off as I have full mobility in my knee. Professor Jari does set a strict exercise programme which in my opinion is the key to full mobility and a quicker recovery time. I would strongly recommend anyone who is thinking of having a Knee replacement to consider the Maco Robotic Surgery under Professor Jari at the Spire Hospital. This surgery is more accurate, less painful and a quicker recovery time. I have friends who have had knee replacements done via a surgeon and they have taken much longer to recover and in some cases suffered issues following their surgery. I can only speak from my own experience but both my knee replacements are perfect. The icing on the cake for me is Professor Jari has managed to straighten both my legs so I am no longer bow legged, perfect! Stephen W

I recently had a right meniscus repair done by Mr. Sanjiv Jari and I’m genuinely impressed. The whole process was smooth, straightforward, and he explained everything in a way that instantly put me at ease. The best part? The recovery has been amazingly quick — my operated knee now feels better than my so-called “good” one. I didn’t expect to be back on my feet so comfortably and so fast. Professional, confident, and easy to talk to , I couldn’t have asked for a better operation. If you need knee surgery, he’s the person you want and worthy of the title ‘The Knee Doc’

Please see the below brief testimonial based around my recent experience regarding my knee arthroscopy key hole surgery, performed by Professor Jari at the Alexandra hospital Cheadle . My operation took place approx. 7 weeks ago as a day patient at the Alexandra hospital Cheadle ,from admission to discharge it ran like clockwork, patient care was second to none ,as was my operation performed by Professor Jari and his Theatre team , nurses and Anesthetist ,I have since been back to the Alexandra to carry on with rehabilitation via physiotherapy ,I am pain free gaining improved mobility day on day ,back working my only regret was not involving professor Jari sooner hoping things would just improve which they never do . To finish I cannot recommend professor Jari highly enough he's a brilliant surgeon ,and a nice genuine guy who actually cares . Regards E I MHurley

Having heard several accounts of traumatic experiences, I have to admit, I initially approached the decision to have kneed replacement with trepidation. The kindness and reassurance of Professor Jari and his team reassured me and helped me to make the decision to go ahead with surgery. Throughout my short stay in the Alexandra Hospital care was thorough and professional and latterly, having followed the professor’s comprehensive post op advice, I am amazed (as are my friends and family) that the recovery has been far less painful and much speedier than ever anticipated. The improvement to my mobility was instant, even during the early days of recovery I was aware of the transformation. I cannot thank the very kind Professor Jari and his team enough, the golf buggy is now a thing of the past.
