Miss Niamh Stone

Miss Niamh Stone is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Oxford Eye Hospital, where she specialises in medical retina disorders and cataract surgery. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh, she completed her extensive postgraduate medical and ophthalmic training across Scotland and Oxford. She completed a fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where she gained specialised experience in medical retina.

Beyond her clinical practice, Miss Stone is committed to medical education and professional leadership within the ophthalmic community. She serves as an Examinations Committee member at the Royal College of Surgeons and has held a leadership role as President of the Ophthalmic Imaging Association (OIA) from 2021 to 2024. She has contributed as a teacher for the MSc in Primary Care Ophthalmology at the University of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons, sharing her expertise with the wider community.

In her clinical work, she manages a broad spectrum of complex retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. She has been involved in many research projects, including important work on "Towards greener intravitreal injections" at the Oxford Eye Hospital, with a focus on sustainable healthcare and innovation.
