About Dr Nadia Abuhussein
Dr Nadia Abuhussein is a GMC registered GP with specialist expertise in dermatology, functional medicine and aesthetics. She graduated with a BMBS in 2016 from the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth and is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). Her medical career has included a Master’s in Surgical Sciences and several years working as a Clinical Fellow in Plastic Surgery before completing her GP training. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Practical Dermatology, advanced training in dermoscopy, Level 7 Aesthetics certification and Functional Medicine training through the AFMCP programme.
A Different Approach to Skin Health
Dr Abuhussein’s approach goes beyond conventional symptom focused skin care. While conventional dermatology often focuses on diagnosing and managing the skin condition itself, her functional medicine approach also explores the wider factors that may be contributing to why a skin concern developed, persists or repeatedly returns.
She views the skin as part of a much wider interconnected system. Depending on the individual, this may involve exploring gut health and the microbiome, hormonal balance, metabolic health, nutritional status, inflammation, stress, lifestyle and environmental influences, alongside the skin barrier and microbiome.
Rather than following the same protocol for every person with the same diagnosis, Dr Abuhussein takes time to understand each patient’s individual health history, symptoms, lifestyle and potential contributing factors. Where appropriate, this may include targeted testing to build a more complete picture of their health.
Her approach brings together evidence based dermatology and functional medicine, using conventional medical assessment where appropriate while looking beyond the skin itself. The aim is not simply to suppress symptoms, but to understand what may be contributing to them and develop a personalised, practical and sustainable plan.
Dr Abuhussein supports patients with concerns including acne, eczema, hair loss, pigmentation, skin ageing and skin changes associated with hormonal transitions such as perimenopause.
By combining dermatology, functional medicine and regenerative aesthetics, her goal is to provide a different approach to skin health, one that considers the whole person rather than treating the skin in isolation.

Dr Nadia was amazing during our consultation. I found her to be an excellent listener and so thorough with her plans.
