Mr Muzaffar Ali Anwar

Mr Muzaffar Ali Anwar is a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of vascular conditions. He practises privately at Hendon Hospital in London and Southend Private Hospital in Essex, and holds an NHS consultant post at Mid and South Essex Hospitals NHS Trust. He is the clinical lead for venous disease and diabetic foot care within the Trust, where he has established a local anaesthetic ambulatory service for varicose vein treatment.

Mr Anwar completed his undergraduate medical degree at Imperial College London and undertook extensive vascular surgery training at several prestigious institutions, including Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, Northwick Park, St Mary’s, and Charing Cross. His specialist training covers the full spectrum of vascular surgery, including the management of peripheral vascular disease, venous disease such as varicose veins, diabetic foot complications, lymphoedema, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), vascular malformations, and aortic aneurysm.

He was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London for his research into the development and pathogenesis of varicose veins. His academic work has earned him recognition at the European and American Venous Forums, where he received best paper awards in 2012 and 2014. He also completed an endovascular fellowship under Professor Thomas Zeller at the Universitäts-Herzzentrum in Freiburg, Germany, enhancing his expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Mr Anwar routinely performs endovenous laser therapy (EVLT), radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy, and VNUS (Venefit) procedures for varicose veins. He also carries out lower limb angioplasty and both open and endovascular repair of aortic aneurysms. As Surgical Lead for University College London medical students at Basildon Hospital, he remains actively involved in surgical education and training.

His clinical interests include varicose veins, hyperhidrosis, aortic and peripheral aneurysms, Raynaud’s disease, carotid disease, diabetic foot disease, vascular malformations, lymphoedema, and stroke prevention. He is a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, the British Society of Endovascular Therapy, and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
