“Mr Fogerty performed separate surgery's on both of my shoulders and from the initial appointment Mr Fogerty was extremely informative, polite and able to settle any queries and concerns I had right through to my final discharge appointment. I cannot speak more highly of Mr Fogerty and his professionalism shown, even through to the moment I was taken into theatre and again post surgery, where Mr Fogerty was on hand to put my mind at ease. More importantly both surgeries were a success with a speedy recovery allowing me to get back to my active lifestyle without the continued shoulder pain I previously suffered from. Thank you!! “

    About

Mr Simon Fogerty is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon working for The Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. He also has private practices at The Spire Elland Hospital and the BMI Huddersfield Hospital. He provides consultations and treatments on trauma, shoulder and elbow conditions. He also provides a patient-centric approach towards treating his patients with the highest level of quality and care.

Mr Fogerty qualified from Sheffield University Medical School in 2001, which is where he also completed his higher surgical training. Following this, he moved to West Yorkshire (Leeds) and undertook a Yorkshire Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training Programme. During this, he completed a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine. This allows him to gain a better understanding in the benefits of exercise and applying the best treatments for athletes. Towards the end of his orthopaedic training, he completed a 12 month fellowship under the supervision of the renowned surgeon Dr Laurent Lafosse. This provided Mr Fogerty with a good understanding of arthroscopy and the latest techniques to treat the shoulder and elbow.

Mr Fogerty is an expert in arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery and shoulder instability, with a good understanding of the Latarjet procedure (coracoid transfer). He also provides treatments for tennis elbow and ulnar nerve entrapment.

    Shoulder Pain
I consulted Mr Fogerty, on the recommendation of my Physiotherapist, after suffering pain in my right shoulder which had not been resolved by physiotherapy. We have had a series of follow up consultations over a 12 month period. I was very satisfied with the treatment I had throughout. Mr Fogerty provided a range of pain relief treatments and diagnostic tests and after 12 months my symptoms have been relieved to a point where surgery is not currently necessary but, should they return, I fully understand the surgical procedures available to resolve. Throughout, Mr Fogerty has provided clear explanations of what was causing the pain. As an active person, have found Mr Fogerty sympathetic to impact the pain has had on my active lifecycle and I also valued how we arranged treatments around booked activity holidays to ensure maximum pain relief at the correct time. At no point have I felt that Mr Fogerty has attempted to push surgery upon me and that other symptom relief has been attempted before we resort to surgery. I would recommend Mr Fogerty.

    Clavicle Fractures Shoulder Surgery
Following a left clavicle break quite near my shoulder joint (caused by road bike accident) that wasn't healing after 7 weeks, I had a consultation with Mr Simon Fogerty. His advise was positive, decisive and reassuring. 2 weeks later Mr Fogerty treated my broken clavicle with bone graft from my hip and a titanium plate to my shoulder. Post-surgery he advised me that I should be ok to turbo train after 4-5 weeks and get back out on my bike in 8 weeks. True to his advise I went for my first outside bike ride nearly 4 month after my accident and 8 weeks after my surgery. My shoulder felt a little different (unsurprisingly), but totally fine. A big thank you Mr Fogerty as he was instrumental in helping me get my life back.

    Shoulder Replacement Shoulder Surgery
Mr Fogerty was first class in every aspect of my shoulder replacement experience. From explaining my options before the operation, to the care l received during my hospital stay and information given to aid my recovery at home, he was exceptional. I felt confident at each stage of the process l was being given the correct advice for my particular problem, and Mr Fogerty always made time to explain any aspect l was unsure about. He helped make the whole process much easier than l had envisioned it being.

I am in awe of the skills of surgeons like Mr Fogerty, not only for their technical ability in repairing and rebuilding our broken bodies, but also their craftmanship in restoring balance and symmetry. I am eternally grateful to him for restoring my shattered clavicle to full functionality.

    Shoulder Arthroscopy
I am delighted with the outcome of my shoulder arthroscopy. After suffering with an impingement for two years, Mr Fogerty successfully diagnosed the condition, guided me through non-surgical options, and ultimately performed a successful operation. At all times throughout the process his advice was clear and considered. This was my first surgical procedure and I felt in very safe hands. The whole experience was professional and supportive; and the outcome has been at the top end of my expectations.

    Shoulder Pain
I can’t fault or recommend any improvements as the care I received, right from my first clinic appointment, pre assessment, the operation, the communication (mainly Mr Foggerty’s secretary) to the follow up care and discharge, was outstanding in every respect. I would highly recommend Mr Foggerty and his team to anyone with any similar issues. I’m am extremely grateful that I’m now able to have a good nights sleep, and the level of pain is now barely noticeable, better results than I had hoped for, and has made a massive difference to my quality of life. Thank you. I would further recommend Calderdale Hospital - it’s lovely as hospitals go.

Mr Fogarty was thorough and gave a good explanation of my diagnosis. He made it clear what my options were to treat it and what the potential outcomes of the treatment would be. There was no pressure to proceed with any treatment on the day based on his recommendations. Overall I was really happy with the initial consultation and the reviews that followed.
