Dr Patel was professional and reassuring and had a lovely, calm manner. He explained everything I needed to know and sent over notes so I could go over what he had told me. This was very useful as I couldn’t remember everything he had said. He answered questions, explained next steps and referred me on for treatment. It was really good to be seen by a specialist in ENT and diagnosed so I could get on and seek help and treatment.

Wonderful clear experience with mr Patel

I felt rushed during each consultation and did not feel that enough questions were asked to fully understand my symptoms. Although I asked several questions, I did not receive explanations that I found clear or understandable. I have experienced a constant blocked sensation in my right ear for over a year. The explanation in the outcome letter states that functional symptoms tend to be affected by attention, anxiety and distraction, but this does not reflect my experience, as my symptom is continuously present and does not fluctuate in this way. Despite this, I have been discharged without a clear, individualised treatment plan or referral for further specialist assessment. I appreciate that the tests were reassuring, but I was left feeling that I had simply been advised to relax and not focus on the symptom. I have contacted the practice manager to request clarification and consideration of a referral to audiovestibular medicine or neuro-otology. I would have valued more time, clearer answers and a management plan that properly addressed my specific symptoms.

I appreciated the time he took to examine and explain my health issue and for being honest and referring me to a specialist consultant for further investigation.

Overall, Mr Patel was extremely professional and courteous. However, I felt that he was somewhat rushed, and we did not have sufficient opportunity to ask questions, although he did briefly explain the next steps going forward. He also explained, using images on his laptop, what the next hearing test would involve. I found this helpful. However, I feel that this information would be even more beneficial if the images could be displayed on a larger screen and accompanied by additional printed resources. This would make it easier for patients to understand the relevant ENT functions and procedures, as medical terminology can sometimes be quite technical and difficult for patients to fully understand. I very much hope that my hearing test can be arranged as soon as possible, as my hearing loss is significantly impacting my ability to be effective in my professional role. I would therefore be grateful if this could be addressed promptly. Thank you to all the staff at the hospital for their excellent customer service and support.
