Mr Simon Phipps is a Consultant Urological Surgeon specialising in the minimally invasive management of urinary stone disease, practising at the Scottish Lithotriptor Centre, Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, and St John’s Hospital in Livingston. He also provides care across the full spectrum of general urology.
He graduated from Nottingham University Medical School in 1997 before undertaking general urology training in the East of Scotland. His subspecialty training included an international fellowship in upper tract laparoscopy and endourology at St George Hospital, Sydney, followed by a fellowship in endourology at the Scottish Lithotriptor Centre.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Phipps is actively engaged in research and education. He completed a Doctor of Medicine (DM) degree at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on the mechanical characteristics of prostatic tissue in benign and malignant disease. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, reviews, and book chapters, and he continues to contribute to the evidence base for the management of urinary stone disease.
He is committed to teaching and training, regularly contributing to British Association of Urological Surgeons and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh surgical training courses, as well as mentoring future urologists in the East of Scotland.
