Mr Sajjad Mushtaq

Mr. Sajjad Mushtaq is a highly skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon, specialising in both adult and paediatric spinal conditions. His expertise lies in minimally invasive spine surgery (MIS), a keyhole approach that aims to minimise post-operative pain, shorten hospital stays, and accelerate the recovery process.

Mr. Mushtaq completed his medical degree in 1995 and subsequently completed comprehensive training in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery in Yorkshire, UK. His dedication to advancing his skills and knowledge in spinal surgery led him to pursue specialised training and fellowships at renowned institutions.

His initial post-CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) spinal fellowship took place at the Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He further honed his skills during a senior spinal fellowship at the AO Spine reference centre located at University Hospital Wales in Cardiff. To broaden his expertise, Mr. Mushtaq undertook fellowship training at the prestigious Imperial College Healthcare in London and received additional training in cutting-edge spinal techniques from various countries, including Belgium, Switzerland, France, Germany, and the USA.

In his role as a spine surgeon, Mr. Mushtaq routinely performs a range of procedures, including microdiscectomy, spinal decompression, cervical and lumbar spinal fusions, vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty, spinal injections, and the management of osteoporotic spinal fractures. He carries out over 100 spinal procedures annually within the NHS.

Mr. Mushtaq is deeply committed to advancing spinal services at Lister Hospital and plays an active role in teaching higher surgical trainees specialising in trauma and spinal surgery. He also contributes to spinal research, with a particular focus on the role of minimally invasive spinal surgery. His research findings have been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and he has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences.
