Mr Rohit Sharma

Mr Rohit Sharma is an experienced consultant ophthalmologist with expertise in treating glaucoma and cataracts, performing complex glaucoma surgery, and a range of laser eye surgical procedures including phacotrabeculectomy and trabeculectomy across a number of Derbyshire eye clinics. He is based in Derby and Burton-upon-Trent at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital and The Burton Clinic, respectively. At these clinics, he also provides general ophthalmology treatments, emergency ophthalmic care and minor ophthalmic procedures.

Following graduation and obtaining his MBBS, Rohit went on to complete his Master's degree in Surgery (Ophthalmology), after which he gained further ophthalmic training in several leading hospitals in the UK, in London, Cambridge and Scotland.

A member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Rohit benefitted immensely from his subspecialty experience at King's College London and St Thomas' London. He was awarded a Clinical Excellence award from the Queens Hospital NHS Trust, Burton on Trent in 2016.

He has a special interest in glaucoma surgery and has completed advanced subspecialty training in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, as well as completing the Senior Glaucoma Fellowship at Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. He also has an interest in the latest innovative treatments within ophthalmology and has undertaken further training with new micro-invasive treatments, such as Xen implants.

He is actively involved in research and was awarded the 'Fight for Sight Award' by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London.

He is an examiner for the FRCS Royal College exams and an Assistant Professor (Honorary) at Nottingham University.
