Mr Roger Hackney is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon based at Spire Leeds hospital.

He specialises in the following areas:

• upper limb surgery
• sports surgery
• shoulder surgery
• groin pain surgery
• elbow surgery
• rotator cuff repair

Mr Hackney trained in orthopaedics in the Royal Air Force and the NHS and undertook higher training at the Royal London Hospital and in Nottingham, where he completed a shoulder fellowship. After becoming a consultant, he spent 5 years in the RAF at Halton and RN Haslar Hospital. Following this, he joined Leeds Teaching Hospitals as an upper limb surgeon.

He undertakes almost 600 procedures each year and is also a consultant to XIROS/Neoligaments. He is also involved in research and is a member of the Leeds Musculoskeletalletal Biomedical Research Unit.

Mr Hackney is an ex-Olympic runner and continues to be active in athletics as a coach as well as in training. Additionally, he helps to run sports medicine courses for the National Sports Medicine Institute and British Sports Trauma Association.
