Mr Robert Lovell is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in spinal surgery, with extensive experience across the full spectrum of spinal conditions. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and undertook the AO Spinal Fellowship in Brisbane, Australia.
Appointed as a consultant spinal surgeon in 2010, Mr Lovell’s practice encompasses spinal trauma, deformity, infection, malignancy and degenerative conditions, including back pain and sciatica. His particular sub-specialist interest lies in cervical spine surgery, and he has significant expertise in cervical disc replacement. He also has a strong interest in the non-operative management of back pain, ensuring patients receive balanced, evidence-based care.
Mr Lovell has established a leading practice in spinal surgery performed under regional anaesthesia, using techniques similar to those employed in caesarean sections. This is to reduce post-operative pain and enhance recovery which attracts patients from across the UK.
In addition to clinical work, he undertakes spinal medico-legal and clinical negligence cases and practices at Nuffield Health Ipswich Hospital, The Ipswich Hospital, and with Gilmour Piper. He is actively involved in surgical education, lecturing nationally and internationally. Outside medicine, he is a keen musician and enjoys family life with his wife and two daughters.
