About Professor Oliver Pearce

Professor Pearce qualified from St Mary's Hospital Medical School in London in 1996. Since then he has pursued a career in orthopaedic surgery; specialising in surgery of the hip and the knee.

He underwent his specialist orthopaedic training in Oxford. And completed his sub specialisation fellowship training in hip and knee primary and revision hip replacement at the internationally renowned Hopital St Marguerite in Marseille France under Professor Jean-Noel Argenson in 2007-8.

He holds the post of Visiting Professor at the Open University (department of Computer Sciences within the School of Mathematics). And Visiting Professor at the University of Bedfordshire (Department of Health Sciences - 2012 to 2022). And Visiting Professor at Cranfield University (Department of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing).

He holds two posts of Senior Lecturer; one at the University of Buckingham Medical School where he is the Block Lead for Musculoskeletal Sciences, and the other at the National Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine Lougborough University (2015-2021).

He is Vice Chair of Research at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

He was the National Lead for the Rapid Recovery Programme (RRP) for Hip and Knee Replacement (2017-2025). An evidence based system that combines minimising the pain after surgery with maximising early mobilisation and minimising post operative medical complications. This is an evolving science and his particular specialty involves developing technology for monitoring recovery. In collaboration with the Open University he has invented and develops innovative technological devices and solutions. And sat on the European Advisory Board for the RRP (2017-2025). A select group of nationally and internationally reputed surgeons. The board sits at the cutting edge of research and implementation of the latest evidence to promote the best possible outcomes after hip and knee replacement.

He held the post of Director of Trauma Surgery at Milton Keynes General Hospital from 2010 to 2015.

He is lead clinician for Orthopaedic Research in Milton Keynes, publishing widely in international journals on hip, knee, trauma and technology topics. Also presenting, moderating and chairing at national and international meetings.

He is a specialist reviewer for articles on hip surgery to the British Bone and Joint Journal (BJJ).

He is a member of the General Medical Council, the Royal College of Surgeons of England, The British Orthopaedic Association, and The British Hip Society (BHS), and British Association of Surgery of the Knee (BASK).

He has patents in health tech innovations. And is co-founder of EasyReach Underwear, which makes adaptive underwear for patients after hip replacement.
