Mr Nicholas Cooke

Mr Nicholas Cooke is a highly experienced Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Hip and Knee Surgeon, with a career spanning over two decades. He graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1995 and is a proud member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. With 30 years as a medical doctor and almost 20 years as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon in the North East of England, Mr Cooke's NHS work is primarily based at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust.

Specialising in primary hip and knee replacements as well as complex revisions, Mr Cooke is renowned for his expertise in metal-on-metal hip revisions, having performed numerous such procedures and contributed valuable research to this field. His clinical practice is comprehensive, also encompassing knee arthroscopies for meniscal tears and osteochondral defects, in addition to offering joint injections for pain relief to hips and knees—often administered during the initial consultation in a clinic setting.

Mr Cooke has conducted extensive research in Birmingham hip resurfacing, focusing on measuring bone density around prostheses; his findings have been presented at both regional and national levels and published in leading orthopaedic journals. He also gained media exposure by appearing on the Channel 4 documentary "Dispatches," which reported on metal-on-metal (ASR) outcomes.

Passionate about education, Mr Cooke is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals. In collaboration with NHS England, he live streams his hip and knee replacement surgeries using advanced Realwear camera equipment, engaging with over 50 students at a time from various specialties in real time. This innovative teaching method not only enriches the learning experience but also bridges the gap between clinical practice and academic education, making his contribution to orthopaedic training both meaningful and impactful.
