About

As the senior knee surgeon in Milton Keynes , and the only surgeon in the area able to offer all the surgical options for knee arthritis, Mr Julian Flynn has over 21 years of experience as a consultant, and specialises in minimally invasive partial knee replacements, total knee replacements, knee ligament reconstructions, sporting knee injuries and hip arthritis.

Up to 40-50 % of patients with knee arthritis do NOT need a total knee replacement, and can be suitable for a partial replacement, with smaller scars , quicker recovery and improved function over TKR. Patients should ensure that they are seeing someone that can offer all options in managing their symptoms. With some of the best results in the country for outcomes after all types of knee replacements, Mr Flynn currently works at Milton Keynes University Hospital and The BMI Saxon Clinic, seeing patients with all types of lower limb pain, injuries, and arthritis. He is known for his honest, transparent, and compassionate approach while delivering excellent results.

His expertise covers all areas of knee surgery, including:

  • Arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques,
  • Managing arthritis in younger patients to delay or avoid joint replacement
  • Primary and revision ligament reconstruction
  • Partial and total knee replacement
  • Total hip replacement
  • Sports injuries

Mr Flynn has the most comprehensive knee surgery skills locally and frequently receives referrals from colleagues, both within his department and from other areas, for routine procedures as well as more complex cases, and second opinions.

From personal experience, Mr Flynn is all too aware of the growing physical toll that sports have on our bodies as we age and the desire to stay active for as long as possible. He appreciates that patients prefer the least intrusive treatments possible to facilitate quick recovery and minimise disruption to their lives.

He has an excellent track record, as reflected by his National Joint Registry results over the past 21 years, with revision rates for unicondylar knee replacements and patellofemoral replacements, among the best in the country. Consequently, patients can feel confident they are receiving top-quality care when treated by Mr Flynn.

Mr Flynn, was very thorough in explaining my condition and what and when I would need treatment. All communications had been promptly responded to. When I was given a date for surgery everything went smoothly. He talked me through the operation, gave me any warnings and listened to any concerns. I felt in safe hands.

Mr Flynn has a very easy going manner, which is very helpful in situations like this. Initial consulations were efficient, and all follow up aspects were managed by his team, making it a really easy process for me. Surgery went very well, and post-op my knee felt much better than it did after the previous surgery I had 12 months ago with a different surgeon.
