Professor Freddie Charles Hamdy

Professor Hamdy has been a Consultant Urological Surgeon for the past 26 years. He is currently the Nuffield Professor of Surgery & Urology at the University of Oxford, Head of the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, Divisional Director for Surgery, Women's and Oncology at the Oxford University Hospitals, and Fellow of Balliol College.

He specialises and has vast experience in the treatment of prostate and bladder cancer. He qualified from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, trained in Surgery and Urology in the UK at Liverpool, Sheffield and Newcastle. He Introduced a multi-specialty robotic surgical programme to Oxford in 2009, and pioneered robot-assisted surgery at Oxford. He was first to perform robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and has undertaken several hundred procedures since 2009 with excellent audited outcomes.

He was elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2007, NIHR Senior Investigator in 2010, and appointed by NHS England as Vice-Chair of the Clinical Expert Group on prostate cancer in 2017.
