Professor Christopher Bentley

Professor Christopher Bentley is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based in London, specialising in cataract and squint (strabismus) treatment for both adults and children. He has particular expertise in paediatric ophthalmology and the use of botulinum toxin in the management of strabismus.

He graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Ophthalmic Optics from Aston University in 1980 and went on to qualify in medicine from King’s College School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1988. He is currently a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Central Middlesex Hospital.

Professor Bentley holds a number of prominent academic and professional roles. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College School of Medicine and a Visiting Professor at Middlesex University. He serves as Vice President of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Section of Ophthalmology and is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ Microsurgical Skills and Paediatric Ophthalmology Higher Specialist Training Faculties. He is also an international member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the European Strabismus Association.

He has published extensively across multiple areas of ophthalmology, particularly in cataract and squint management. In addition to his clinical and research work, he is actively involved in education and assessment, acting as an examiner for institutions including City University, Imperial College London, Middlesex University and the British College of Optometrists.
