About Mr Alan Howieson
Mr Alan Howieson is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist expertise in hip and knee surgery. He practices within the NHS at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and privately at Kings Park Hospital, providing comprehensive care for a wide range of lower limb conditions.
He graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) in 2000. He subsequently completed a Master of Science in Orthopaedic Engineering at Cardiff University and a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
Mr Howieson completed his surgical training in Cambridge before undertaking advanced subspecialty fellowships. These included a lower limb arthroplasty fellowship in New Zealand and a specialist knee fellowship at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol, where he further developed his expertise in complex knee surgery.
His clinical interests include lower limb trauma, total and partial knee replacement, joint preservation techniques, and sports knee surgery such as ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair. He is an active member of professional organisations including the British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine and the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland.

I would like to say a huge thank you for the care Mr Howienson provided following my son’s serious ACL injury a year ago. From our very first conversation, his expertise immediately put us at ease, but it was his genuine commitment to helping him get back to playing his best football that meant the most to us. He explained the procedure in terms that not only I could understand, but more importantly, that my 16 year old son could. The operation went ahead precisely as planned, accompanied by the best possible pre and post operative treatment.
