About Mr Alan Howieson
Mr Alan Howieson is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist expertise in hip and knee surgery. He practices within the NHS at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and privately at Kings Park Hospital, providing comprehensive care for a wide range of lower limb conditions.
He graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) in 2000. He subsequently completed a Master of Science in Orthopaedic Engineering at Cardiff University and a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
Mr Howieson completed his surgical training in Cambridge before undertaking advanced subspecialty fellowships. These included a lower limb arthroplasty fellowship in New Zealand and a specialist knee fellowship at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol, where he further developed his expertise in complex knee surgery.
His clinical interests include lower limb trauma, total and partial knee replacement, joint preservation techniques, and sports knee surgery such as ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair. He is an active member of professional organisations including the British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine and the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland.

Prior to the operation Mr. Howieson provided a detailed explanation of the procedure and this included outlining the risks involved with any surgery. He was clear and precise in a way that inspired confidence. The operation was to my mind totally successful and the knee is fully operational and pain free. I could it have wished for a better surgeon and equally I would have no hesitation in recommending King’s Park Hospital.
