About

Miss Susan Hignett is a General Surgeon specialising in breast surgery based at Spire Regency Hospital Macclesfield.

She graduated from The University of Birmingham Medical School in 2002 with honours and embarked on her surgical career. The first 12 months of her career was spent in North Wales with the majority of her training completed within the Mersey Region. Having become a Member of the RCS England in 2005, she was awarded fellowship to the Royal College in 2013.

Within her training, Miss Hignett was successful in becoming a National Training Interface Group (TIG) Oncoplastic Breast Fellow. This involved focussed and dedicated training, with both breast and plastics colleagues, in West Yorkshire, performing both Cosmetic and Oncoplastic Breast Techniques.

During this time, Miss Hignett also spent time training in Brussels with Professor Hamdi (Plastics Consultant) and attended meetings in both Brussels and Paris. Following this Miss Hignett became a Trainee Representative for the Oncoplastic TIG Group advising on the continued evolving structure of the program and the interview process. In view of this, Miss Hignett has a dynamic interest in promoting and supporting the National TIG Oncoplastic Breast Fellowships in the selection and training of surgeons to perform Oncoplastic Procedures as listed above.

Miss Hignett is fully accredited having been awarded her CCT for General Surgery in 2015 and is on the Specialist Register with the GMC having a declared interest in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery.

Alongside her Oncoplastic breast work, Miss Hignett is actively involved in Training and has recently been appointed Program Director for the Foundation Trainees. Also, within her role, she is an Educational Supervisor for Breast Trainees and a Clinical Supervisor for GP trainees and Physician's Assistants. Miss Hignett is also an online tutor for the MS-Breast run through the University of East Anglia.

Miss Hignett is also involved in audit and research and has both presented and published work nationally and internationally. She has been involved in projects with both the North West Trainee Research Collaborative Group and iBRA-net and agrees that Quality Improvement and excellent patient care are essential to providing an exceptional service for patients.

She is very keen on providing an excellent quality service and working within a team of multidisciplinary colleagues to provide the best Private Breast Care for Patients. Offering one stop new patient clinics, results clinics, reconstruction & cosmetic consultations working alongside multidisciplinary services e.g. radiology for mammographic and CT imaging, histology for biopsy results, oncology for specialist cancer care (radiotherapy/chemotherapy), plastics for free flap reconstructions, nurses for support, forming an MDT where patients are supported through treatments utilising a multidisciplinary approach.

Explanation

Miss Hignett is a very approachable and friendly lady. I felt completely at ease in her company. She is so knowledgeable in her field and left feeling a lot more confident, thanks to her understanding and care. She explained everything in layman's terms and helped me understand what my options would be going forward, offering various different surgeries, along with their own pro's and con's etc and giving me lots of information to digest and help me make the right decision for me. I would not hesitate to recommend Miss Hignett
