Dr Mehran Javeed

Dr Mehran Javeed is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in older adult psychiatry, with particular expertise in dementia, cognitive impairment and the complex psychiatric symptoms associated with neurological and other physical illnesses. His clinical practice encompasses both organic and functional mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and psychosis.

Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Dr Javeed has held leadership roles within mental health services, contributing to service development, collaborative healthcare initiatives and the improvement of care pathways for older people. His work reflects a commitment to combining sound clinical assessment with a broader understanding of the medical, psychological and social factors affecting mental health in later life.

Dr Javeed has a particular academic interest in the neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia. He co-authored the book chapter Neuropsychiatric Aspects of Dementia, published in the fifth edition of Dementia in 2017. His involvement in specialist dementia education through Neurology Academy further reflects his interest in improving clinical understanding and the assessment and management of cognitive and behavioural symptoms.

In addition to clinical psychiatry, Dr Javeed undertakes medico-legal work relating to older people's mental health, including psychiatric reports and mental capacity assessments. This work draws on his clinical experience in evaluating cognition, psychiatric symptoms and an individual's ability to make specific decisions.
