Dr Matthew Stovell

Dr Matthew Stovell is a dedicated Consultant Neurosurgeon and Complex Spine Surgeon who provides comprehensive, patient-focused care for individuals with brain and spinal conditions. Specialising in both emergency and elective neurosurgical care, Dr Stovell is committed to delivering precise clinical management tailored to each patient's individual needs. His work focuses on managing acute head injuries, complex spinal pathologies, and neurotrauma with a compassionate and reassuring approach.

Dr Stovell completed his medical degree (MBBS with Merit) along with an intercalated Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Pharmacology with First Class Honours at University College London. He went on to undertake dedicated research in neurocritical care, earning a PhD in Clinical Neurosciences from the University of Cambridge. In 2021, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Surgical Neurology. To broaden his expertise across both neurosurgical and orthopaedic spinal techniques, he completed advanced international fellowship training in complex spine surgery, obtaining Post-Fellowship Education and Training certification accredited by the Australian Orthopaedic Association. Dr Stovell maintains professional membership with the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

His clinical and research interests include cerebral multimodality monitoring, neuroprotection following brain trauma, and the long-term management of post-traumatic symptoms.
