Dr. Lucy Spencer

Dr Lucy Spencer is a Specialist Eating Disorder Clinical Psychologist at Lilac Tree Clinic in Sheffield. She has a decade of experience across clinical practice and research, focusing on the assessment and care of people with a range of eating disorders. Her expertise also includes the assessment and psychological treatment of ARFID.

Dr Spencer works with several therapeutic approaches, with experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Eating Disorders, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). She develops individual treatment and recovery plans and also works indirectly with patients’ support networks, helping families and others involved in their care to better understand the signs and symptoms of eating disorders and the recovery process.

Her academic background began with an undergraduate degree in Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford, followed by a PhD in Psychological Medicine. Her doctoral research focused on developing a programme to support people with complex eating disorders as well as their families and partners. She later completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Birmingham.

Dr Spencer has presented her research at national and international conferences. Her areas of expertise include eating disorders, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and carer support.
