Dr. Lorena Pinto-Almeida

Lorena Pinto-Almeida is a Clinical and Counselling Psychologist with extensive experience in both the NHS and private practice. She has been practising as a Clinical and Counselling Psychologist within the NHS since 2011, based in the Greater Cambridge area. Lorena works with the National Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in the East of England, providing specialist services for children and young people with hearing loss and deafness who also experience mental health difficulties.

In addition to her NHS role, Lorena has been in private practice since 2019, offering clinical psychology, counselling, psychotherapy, family work, and systemic practice. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and has a Theraplay-informed approach to her work, ensuring her practice is grounded in evidence-based interventions tailored to the individual needs of her clients.

Lorena's academic background includes training as a Systemic Practitioner at the Prudence Skynner Family and Couple Therapy Clinic (2016–2019), psychodynamic psychotherapy training at the Sociedade Portuguesa de Psicologia Clínica (2007–2011), and a degree in Clinical Psychology from the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada (2000–2005).

Her broad expertise spans systemic therapy, psychodynamic approaches, EMDR, and working with complex family systems, with a strong focus on supporting children, adolescents, and families dealing with a range of psychological challenges.
