Dr. Kunal Targe

Dr. Kunal Targe is a highly skilled Pain Management Consultant with extensive expertise in treating patients suffering from complex chronic pain conditions. He specialises in managing a variety of pain disorders, including but not limited to neck, thoracic, and low back pain, sciatica, joint pain (shoulder, hip, and knee), coccygeal pain, neuropathic pain, and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). His comprehensive approach is designed to provide long-lasting relief and improve quality of life for individuals struggling with persistent pain.

Dr. Targe is adept at performing spinal nerve and facet joint injections, followed by radio-frequency denervation procedures, which are particularly effective for delivering long-term pain relief. To ensure the precision and effectiveness of these treatments, he utilises ultrasound or X-ray guidance, optimising the placement of therapeutic agents. Each year, Dr. Targe performs around 600 pain procedures and consults with over 600 patients dealing with chronic pain. He also advocates for a multidisciplinary approach by incorporating complementary therapies, such as physical therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and mindfulness-based practices, to enhance pain management outcomes.

Currently serving as a Consultant in Chronic Pain Medicine at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, Dr. Targe previously held consultant roles in pain medicine at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital in Surrey, and George Eliot Hospital in the Midlands. He completed his pain fellowship at United Hospitals of Leicestershire NHS Trust and was awarded the Fellowship in Pain Medicine (FFPMRCA) by the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthesia in 2021. Dr. Targe also trained in anaesthesia, intensive care, and pain medicine at East Midlands School of Anaesthesia and received his Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) in 2016. He holds an MBBS and MD in Anesthesiology from India, where he began his medical career before moving to the UK.
