Mrs Kate Heathcote

Kate Heathcote is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at University Hospitals Dorset, where she practises across general, routine, and emergency ear, nose and throat care. She has a specialist interest in laryngology and established the Centre for Airway, Voice and Swallow at Poole Hospital, providing dedicated expertise for patients with complex voice, airway, and swallowing disorders.

Mrs Heathcote trained in the Wessex region before undertaking advanced subspecialist training in laryngology. She completed a six-month fellowship in Rouen, France, where she gained experience in pioneering techniques in laryngeal reinnervation, followed by a further six-month fellowship at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in London.

She has strong national and international research interests in laryngology and regularly travels to lecture, teach, and mentor surgeons worldwide. Mrs Heathcote is an active council member of both the British Laryngological Association and the European Laryngology Society, reflecting her prominent role in the international laryngology community and enabling close collaboration with leading experts across Europe and beyond.

Passionate about improving standards of care, Mrs Heathcote is deeply committed to advancing the management of voice, airway, and swallowing disorders in the UK. She has pioneered in-office treatment clinics providing cutting edge assessments and treatments of laryngeal conditions and supports other centres to follow suit.

She has introduced techniques of laryngeal reinnervation to the UK setting up national centres for both adult and paediatric reinnervation and training surgeons globally.

She is chair of the European Laryngology Society Dysphagia committee and a long standing council member of the British Laryngological Association.

She is currently involved in ongoing laryngological research in collaboration with the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital and continues to present and teach on the international stage, contributing to innovation, education, and improved patient outcomes.
