About Mr John Mcfarlane

Mr John McFarlane is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hand, wrist and elbow surgery. Appointed as a Consultant at Yeovil Hospital in 2019, he provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for a wide range of elective and traumatic conditions affecting the upper limb.

After graduating with a Graduate Entry Medicine degree from St George's, University of London, in 2006, Mr McFarlane completed his postgraduate orthopaedic training on the Oswestry Training Programme. He subsequently undertook a prestigious one-year Hand and Wrist Fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, where he gained advanced training in all aspects of elective and trauma hand and wrist surgery, including wrist arthroscopy, small joint replacement surgery and the management of Dupuytren's disease.

Mr McFarlane treats the full range of hand, wrist and elbow conditions, including arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, nerve compression syndromes, fractures, sports injuries and degenerative disorders. He works closely with patients to develop individualised treatment plans, offering both non-surgical management and surgical intervention where appropriate, with the aim of restoring function, reducing pain and supporting a successful recovery.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr McFarlane is actively involved in research and education. He has presented his work nationally and internationally, particularly in the field of hand surgery, and has published research on Dupuytren's disease in the European Journal of Hand Surgery. Prior to studying medicine, he completed a degree in Biology followed by a Master's degree in Chemical Research.
