Dr. Harish Bhakta

Dr Harish Bhakta is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with extensive experience in general ophthalmology and laser eye treatments. He graduated with an MBChB from the University of Zimbabwe in 1985 before undertaking specialty training in ophthalmology in Glasgow between 1993 and 1997. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS, Ophthalmology) in 1996 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth, UK) in 1997.

Dr Bhakta began his consultant career in Zimbabwe, working at the Richard Morris Eye Unit and Bulawayo Eye Clinic from 1999 to 2009. On returning to the United Kingdom, he was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, where he has worked since 2009. His earlier clinical training included posts at Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow.

His subspecialty expertise is in the use of laser treatments for eye disease. This includes panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) and focal laser therapy for diabetic retinopathy, selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and YAG laser peripheral iridotomy for glaucoma, and YAG laser capsulotomy for posterior capsule opacification following cataract surgery.

Dr Bhakta also practises at Practice Plus Group Ophthalmology, Rochdale, providing specialist ophthalmic care to patients across Greater Manchester.
