Dr George Mariatos is a highly experienced and dedicated Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in cataract surgery. Born in Athens, Greece, he studied medicine at the Medical University of Constanta, Romania, and later became a registrar in ophthalmology in Bucharest.

Since 2009, Dr Mariatos has worked in the NHS in a variety of clinical and managerial roles, including Clinical Lead, Clinical Governance Lead, and Clinical Audit Lead. He has also led and overseen several ophthalmology sub-specialty services, such as a Medical Retina Service and Diabetic Screening Service.

Throughout his career, Dr Mariatos has been involved in several quality and capacity-improving projects in NHS trusts, including unifying treatment protocols for medical retinal diseases, implementing virtual clinics, and extending roles for nurses within ophthalmology.

However, his passion lies in cataract surgery, and he has become a high-volume cataract surgeon, performing around 3,500 cataract surgeries per year at SpaMedica. Dr Mariatos also sees patients at Freedom Vision in Leeds. He is dedicated to providing the best possible care for his patients and continually seeks to improve his surgical techniques to ensure optimal outcomes.
