Fiona Murray is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director at Women First Healthcare, with extensive experience in women’s mental health, perinatal psychiatry and adult psychiatric care. She has worked as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist since 2006 and spent more than seven years as a full-time perinatal psychiatric consultant, supporting women through pregnancy and the first year after birth. During this time, she contributed to the development of the Scottish SIGN guidelines on perinatal mood disorders, published in 2012, as a member of the specialist panel responsible for their creation.
Alongside her specialist perinatal work, Dr Murray has broad experience caring for adults in inpatient mental health settings and community psychiatric services across the UK and internationally. She is also a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT), enabling her to provide an integrative and holistic approach to assessment and treatment.
Originally training in general practice before specialising in psychiatry, Dr Murray was drawn to the field through a desire to spend more time listening to patients and understanding their experiences in depth. Her NHS career has reinforced her commitment to women’s mental health, with a strong emphasis on delivering personalised care tailored to each individual’s circumstances and needs.
At Women First Healthcare, Dr Murray aims to provide a supportive and understanding environment where women can access specialist psychiatric expertise, compassionate care and the time needed to navigate challenging periods in their lives.
