He currently leads the heart failure service at a city-centre teaching hospital and has played a key role in merging services across two major hospitals, creating one of the largest heart failure services in the UK.

Dr. McKay’s training includes sub-specialisation in complex pacing and advanced heart and lung transplant medicine. He is a recognised international expert in cardiogenic shock, mechanical support, and pulmonary hypertension. His work extends to congenital heart disease and right ventricular failure, where he has been invited to speak globally and contribute to expert committees.

Dr. McKay’s clinical practice includes managing complex transplant patients and performing advanced imaging and stress echo tests. He is skilled in managing heart failure, implanting devices, and evaluating patients prior to vascular surgery or transplantation. His academic contributions are substantial, including his role as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.
