Miss Eleni Balabanidou

Miss Eleni Balabanidou is a Consultant in Hand Surgery at Southampton General Hospital, where she combines her expertise in elective and trauma surgery of the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow.

She currently is the Clinical Lead of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department. She is proud to be the hospital’s first female consultant Clinical lead in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Miss Balabanidou completed her medical degree at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2001, followed by general surgery specialty training at AHEPA University Hospital in 2003 and orthopaedics training at G. Papanikolaou General Hospital in 2009. She went on to complete a prestigious EFORT travel fellowships in trauma and orthopaedicsin Italy in 2009.

She complete a trauma fellowship at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and Hand fellowship at Southampton General Hospital.

She obtained the European Diploma in Hand Surgery in 2012.

Since joining Southampton General Hospital in 2010, she has progressed from Hand Fellow to Consultant, performing a high volume of both trauma and elective procedures each year. She has been trained by leading surgeons across Europe and the UK and has gained extensive experience in complex hand, wrist and elbow  trauma management.

Her academic work includes contributions to European and Greek orthopaedic textbooks, multiple publications, and presentations on trauma surgery, particularly in the field of hand and wrist injuries.

She is an active member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH).
