Dr Simon Taggart

Dr Simon Taggart is a Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist who provides specialist diagnostic evaluations for patients experiencing a wide range of neurological conditions. Focusing on the intricate function of the central and peripheral nervous systems, he delivers detailed assessments of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles to support accurate diagnoses and inform treatment planning. Dr Taggart is dedicated to delivering patient-centred care, ensuring that individuals feel supported, reassured, and fully informed throughout their diagnostic journey.

In his clinical practice, Dr Taggart specialises in comprehensive neurophysiological investigations. His areas of clinical interest encompass the assessment of nerve compression disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar mononeuropathy, peripheral neuropathies, cervical and lumbar radiculopathies, and primary muscle disorders such as myopathy. He routinely conducts specialised diagnostic procedures, including electroencephalography (EEG) for evaluating cerebral activity, electromyography (EMG), and nerve conduction studies (NCS). Additionally, he possesses expertise in paediatric neurophysiology and the interpretation of evoked potential studies.

Dr Taggart completed his undergraduate medical education at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, obtaining a Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours in 1992 and his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degrees in 1993. Following general medical training, he attained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1997. He subsequently undertook higher specialist medical training in clinical neurophysiology between 1998 and 2002. He maintains active professional affiliation with the Royal College of Physicians.
