Dr Miles Behan

Dr. Miles Behan is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist with specialist expertise in interventional cardiology, coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, and cardiovascular prevention. He has been a Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh since 2011 and also provides private cardiology care through Spire Healthcare and Nuffield Health in Edinburgh.

He studied Medicine at the University of St Andrews and the University of Cambridge, before completing a Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Nottingham. His research focused on the role of blood cells in myocardial infarction and coronary artery disease.

Dr. Behan completed his specialist cardiology training at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, and was subsequently awarded the prestigious Cordis International Interventional Cardiology Fellowship. During this fellowship in Adelaide, Australia, he gained advanced experience in coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), coronary stenting, and complex cardiovascular procedures. He performs coronary angiography, angioplasty (PCI), PFO closures and TAVI procedures.

His clinical practice covers all aspects of general cardiology, with particular expertise in coronary intervention and structural heart disease. He assesses and treats patients with chest pain, angina, breathlessness, palpitations, arrhythmias, hypertension, heart valve disease, heart failure, high cholesterol, pacemakers, and coronary artery disease.

Dr. Behan also provides cardiovascular risk assessment and preventive cardiology for patients with risk factors such as high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, family history of heart disease, or increased risk of heart attack and stroke. His approach combines accurate diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, lifestyle advice, medication optimisation, and interventional treatment where appropriate.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Behan undertakes medico-legal work as an expert witness, providing independent specialist reports in cases involving cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment.
